at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in an academic library=

knowledge of current and emerging issues in collection development and
scholarly publishing, demonstrated assessment and analytical skills, and
excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with NOTIS and/or Aleph library
management systems, technical services experience, reference and
bibliographic instruction experience, additional advanced degree in subject
area.=20

General Responsibilities: Reporting to the Dean of Poynter Library, the
successful candidate will provide leadership for assessment and planning of
library collections and management of associated technical services to meet
the instructional and research needs of the University of South Florida St.
Petersburg. This librarian will supervise a 2.5 FTE department responsible
for serials check-in, binding, book repair, and other conservation
functions, pre-ordering processes, and other collection-related activities,
working in close cooperation with the USF Libraries Central Services
departments that provide acquisitions and cataloging services for Poynter
Library. He or she will have primary responsibilities for technical
services, collection assessment and planning and faculty liaison. Until
January, 2006, this librarian will work collaboratively with the current
collection development librarian, assuming all collection development
responsibilities upon her retirement. This position is a 12-month,
non-tenured faculty position.

Specific Responsibilities:
Supervises the day to day activities of the USF SP technical services
department.=20
Establishes and interprets appropriate departmental policies and procedures=

including discipline and attendance and leave processes.
Oversees the June 2005 transition to technical services modules of the Alep=
h
library management system.
Establishes and interprets appropriate departmental policies and procedures=
.
Implements collection assessments and serials reviews on an ongoing basis.
Collects statistics, provides outcomes assessments, and develops strategic
planning for library collections and technical services.
Beginning January 2006, coordinates overall selection and evaluation of
print resources for USF SP collections, provides leadership to subject
liaison librarians, and assumes responsibility for library materials funds.
Other collection duties to begin in 2006 include donor relations and gift
process and faculty outreach.
Serves as liaison to faculty members in selected /subject areas as
appropriate.=20
Maintains effective working relationships with appropriate USF libraries
centralized services departments and with USF Library System
collection-related committees, including those related to electronic
collections.=20
Assists at reference desk and participates in classroom presentations as
required. Duties may include some weekend and evening hours.
Participates in professional activities, including, research, publication,
and service to the university and professional organizations required for
satisfactory annual evaluations and academic promotion.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Poynter Library.

Salary and Rank: Assistant librarian salaries begin at $39,500; academic
rank commensurate with qualifications. Benefits include 22 days of vacatio=
n
and 13 sick days annually, plus TIAA/CREF or other retirement options and
insurance benefits.
