RE: DVD problem.
We recently ordered several DVDs and they turned out to be the DVD-Rs.
Would not play on JVC DVD player, nor would it play on several of our
new computers. They did, however, run on a computer with XP. I think
the problem is really with the drive capabilities in these systems. It
is my understanding that the problem may have something to do with the
speed of copying. If it's done above 6 X may not play. Our only choice
was to return and order items in VHS instead.

Anyone else care to comment?

Has anyone else had to withdraw copies of DVDs in this series after
they
have circulated a few times? I am looking for information on the
"Discoveries....America" series from Bennet-Watt HD Productions.

The Duluth Public Library owns 3 in this series - Nevada, Washington,
and Wyoming. We had complaints on Nevada after it circulated 7
times
and problems withWashington, after it circulated 4 times. We can not
get them to play on any DVD player we have tried. Wyoming has
circulated 13 times without any problems. I am making the assumption
that someone was able to watch the DVDs because we did not get any
complaints until after a few circs.

Before we try to get replacement copies or order others in this series
I thought I would check with other libraries that might be circulating
this series. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hello all,
I'd like to again invite anyone interested who's going to be at ALA
next
week to join the Video Round Table dinner on Friday evening at 7:00 pm.

I have slightly changed the venue, same restaurant different location.

We will now be dining at the Park Place Legal Seafoods
<http://www.legalseafoods.com/index.cfm/ac/locations_detail/id/11>. The

location at the Convention Center is already overbooked for that
evening, but this should be fairly close to most of the hotels...
If you haven't let me know that you'll be joining us please do so and
I'll be glad to revise the reservation...
Thanks and hope to see you soon,
Mary

Has anyone here used disposable headphones for viewing stations in your institution? We're replacing headphones at an alarming rate due to mishandling by our students. An instructor suggested something along the line of what is used by the airlines. I realize that the sound quality on those is fairly bad. Maybe someone here knows of a decent product. =20 Many thanks. =20

Industry estimates vary, but most figures I've seen suggest that these titles play in most (80-90%) but not all DVD players.
