>Hi all and Happy New Year!

For those of you who are interested in the fate of the Film Literature
Index Online Project at Indiana University, here's Kris Brancolini's
official word.

Gary

>The Indiana University Digital Library Program in collaboration with the
>Film and Television Documentation Center at SUNY received a grant from the
>National Endowment for the Humanities on July 1, 2001 to convert the print
>version of the Film Literature Index for online retrieval. The FLI Online
>contains approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and
>book reviews published between 1976-2001. Indiana University launched a
>preview site on November 1, 2004; we are continuing to correct
>typographical errors and working on response time for complex searches. We
>anticipate finishing the online index by the end of January. Notable
>features include:
>
>* Comprehensive search functionality that includes Boolean operators,
>wildcard and exact phrase in either the basic search or advanced search
>pages as well as filters in the advanced search page that range from
>language to peer review for additional refinement;
>
>* Exploratory access available in the browse section, which provides
>alphabetical browse access to subject headings, person names, production
>titles and corporate names;
>
>* Robust results manipulation, which supports refining within the result
>set by utilizing either the search box or the pre-defined filters (format,
>document type and language) provided;
>
>* OpenURL compatibility allows for institution-specific full-text access;
>
>* Export of selected citations via email, print or save functionality.
>
>It is true that the Digital Library Program is no longer working with the
>Film and Television Documentation Center. We are working to
>resolve our differences with the State University of New York -- Albany.
>We are exploring options, but for now, the index is accessible free of
>charge at this URL: http://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/fli/index.jsp.
>Unfortunately, this is likely to be a static resource, with new citations
>only available through subscription to the paper index.
>
>Please feel free to contact me off the list if you have additional
>questions.
