Also--in the past year I have talked to two different directors of
documentary materials that were trying to decide upon a distributor.
Because they are new filmmakers they were most interested in selling as
many copies as possible/gaining the largest possible audience. They
were both interested in what price I would be willing to pay for a
documentary film, and what my best guess was that other local public
libraries would be willing to pay. One of them then decided to continue
to self-distribute (but specifically market to libraries) and the other
one went with a company that does less aggressive marketing but sells in
the $30 price range.
