We are pleased to announce that Gary Crowdus, with more than thirty years
of experience in film and video distribution, has joined the staff of First
A 1969 graduate of New York University's Institute of Film and Television,
during the following decade Crowdus worked at the Tricontinental Film
Center, which released classic Latin American films like Fernando Solanas &
Octavio Getino's The Hour of the Furnaces, Patricio Guzman's The Battle of
Chile, Jorge Sanjines's Blood of the Condor, and Humberto Solas's Lucia &
Tomas Gutierrez Alea's Memories of Underdevelopment. Beginning in 1981, he
was President of Distribution at The Cinema Guild, a distributor
specializing in foreign and American independent films. He is also Founder
and Editor-in-Chief of Cineaste, one of America's most respected film
quarterlies, and Editor of The Political Companion to American Film.
All of us here are enjoying working with Gary, and feel lucky to have
someone with his broad diversity of experience and expertise. We hope those
