>From MARC21 format for bibliographic data, tags x00:
Subfield $4 contains a MARC code that specifies the relationship between a
name and a work. More than one relator code may be used if the person has
more than one function. The source of the MARC code is MARC Code Lists for
Relators, Sources, Description Conventions that is maintained by the Library
of Congress. The code is given after the name portion in name/title fields.
A list is available at: http://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/.

Relator terms, which also specify the relationship of a person to a work,
are contained in subfield $e.
>From MARC21 format for bibliographic data, tags x00:
Subfield $e contains a designation of function that describes the
relationship between a name and a work, e.g., ed., comp., ill., tr.,
collector, joint author.
