Dear colleagues,

At the University of Notre dame the collection of visual material,
primarily VHS and DVD, has been non-circulating and closed stacks. We are
considering making the collection circulating and possibly open stacks.
At the moment we have slightly more than 7,500 items in the collection

Dear Margaret: We circulate to students, but our stacks are closed.

Unless you have electrical barbed wire on your videocassettes/DVDs--I WOULD
DEFINITELY NOT ALLOW THEM ON OPEN STACKS. Consider the fact that you
will not be able to the replace the $200-250 independently made production that
was stolen from the shelf, and that the students and faculty will suffer for that loss.

Prevent theft by at least not making it easy to do so.

Regards
