Has anyone had experience with purchasing the rights to put complete
documentaries (not home videos) on a secured server for preservation
purposes as well as campus access. I need information on how people are
attempting to preserve older, important, unique documentaries on videotape
that are in danger of disintegrating? (I'm dealing with a huge collection
of Hawaii/Pacific Island/Asia titles.) Is making a DVD preservation copy
preferable to putting them on a server? (I know that DVD is not a
preservation medium, that 16mm films is still preferred) I fear that
rights for putting old copyrighted videos on the web are different from
educational rights and, in most cases, may not be available?
