Would you know where you could get a list for "classic" or top films
(Mexican, Hispanic, Latino) for those ethnic groups?

Sad to say, the AFI voting (highly decided upon by the studios
themselves, so be careful) and the LOC National Film Registry (a much
more interesting list), have one fatal flaw -- no foreign films. It's
like the best 100 novels of all time without Tolstoy, Shakespeare or
Cervantes.=20

Beyond considering the basic community needs (any feature films or docs
shot in the area that would be invaluable -- or particularly large
ethnic groups in the area that might like to see one of their own films
on the list), I would combine the LOC with the magazine's Sight and
Sound polls done every 10 years (
http://www.bfi.org.uk/sightandsound/topten/index.html ) and the British
Film Institute's National Film Theatre Essential 400 list (
http://www.bfi.org.uk/ ) that's on their website to come up with a
master list that you might like to narrow down yourself.=20

Facets is also doing a top ten list of many people including directors,
librarians, even (GASP!) middle-aged film distributors, that should be
published soon.
