Ever since Pearl Buck and her family left WV and moved to China there
has been a link between this part of the world and Asia. Maya Lin,
designer of the Viet Nam Memorial, used her Chinese ancestry and the
mountains of Appalachia as her twin sources of inspiration. Here is an
account of a cultural exchange between Appalachia's world-class media
center, Appalshop, and filmmakers from rural China.
