[Videolib] CD-ROMs/DVDs

We have decided not to collect adult CD-ROMs this year, but continue to
receive children's titles. Although we have asked our vendor to include new
and recent titles many of the titles in the last shipment were not new and
not too recent. The reason, according to the vendor, many of the titles are
released in the US first and are therefore more costly or more difficult to
obtain. The vendor also suggested that there were not a lot of new titles to
choose from. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of problem? Any comments
about the future of CD-ROMs?

Also...I am in the process of reviewing selection criteria for VHS & DVD and
was wondering if anyone had any resource suggestions? I am particularly
interested in core lists for public libraries (adult and juvenile)? How to
address the "Blockbuster factor"? What percentage of a collection should be
tailored to popular demand? The impact of theft on this type of collection
(feature films), particularly in DVD format ? The viability of a DVD
traveling collection? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
