Sadly lots and lots of films have rights problems.
For instance many documentary films like EYES ON THE PRIZE
and HOLLYWOOD- THE PIONEERS series have extensive clips in them which would
have to be relicensed for DVD at a cost of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
so don't hold your breath for those and HANG ON TO THE VIDEOS.
Many foreign and independent films have very complicated rights problems
which again are likely to keep many of them out of DVD, many will eventually
clear but others will not. As for studio films, basically they just don't
really care about a lot of smaller titles and some things that they
may have released which are already rare enough, they will never put on DVD.
Most DVD's require a film to be remastered, re packaged etc. Studios are
not interested in anything that won't sell at least 10,000 copies and that
is not likely to change.

NEVER assume that if something is out on VHS it will be out on DVD
WHEN/IF it comes out on DVD than you can get rid of it if you want to
but hang on to older titles for dear life right now.

FYI I can think of at least 50 titles Kino owns that I can never imagine
us putting on DVD
