Jim Surkamp – Immortal Essence
Jim Surkamp has been making films and creating websites about his
beloved
Jefferson County in the Eastern Panhandle for several decades. He has
made films about James Rumsey and other important people not given their
due by history. Recently he has created a film about a local writer and
gardener, “Immortal Essence: The Life of Danske Dandridge.” He
screened this film recently as part of a tribute to Dandridge he gave at
the Jefferson County Country Club. The film is unique in that Dandridge
was both a dedicated
gardner and a wonderful poet, expressing emotions about flowers, trees
and plants that I for one have never heard. WVU has posted an entire
website he
created with her poems and pictures of her.

perfectly captures her intense meditations on life and flowers, making a
document unique in my experience. I don't think that anyone who sees the
film will ever again look upon their flowers, especially poppies, in
quite the same way. You can purchase this film for only $10 plus
