I had the opportunity to attend a big-screen showing of "The Great American
Songbook" which has been showing recently on PBS and has just been released
on DVD.

I want to recommend this excellent 3-hour documentary on great American
composers and their songs. The film clips are of excellent quality and
nicely woven into the narrative and most of the clips include the entire
song or the major verses, so you really get to hear the songs and see them
performed by many of the stars that made them famous. Michael Feinstein
hosts the program and brings his expertise and love of the great standards
to the program, which includes nearly 150 songs.

I think this DVD would make a nice addition to any library media collection
-- and for less than $20, the price is certainly right!
