In most cases standard "fair use" would apply but I can never remember
the formula for calculating how many seconds of a film you can use.
Also if the project is ENTIRELLY for a class with no public screenings
you should be able to do what you want.
Also in SOME cases if the student asks nicely companies like Kino would
let them do whatever they wanted with clips provided it was never broadcast
and no admission were charged
