I wanted to put my two cents in on this. A couple of years a go I shifted from ILL to our Media Circulation Department, and my timing could not have been better. I did two things, allowed students to check out material and started purchasing DVDs. For about six months we only had three discs(Casablanca, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Taxi Driver), but slowly we've built up the collection. We now have about 220 titles that are a mixture of feature films, made for tv mini series, and documentaries. If the title is available on DVD we get it in that format, and circulate a player to departments that do not have them yet. Our budget did not increase, but I was able to build up the collection with 133 titles that I got through a grant to buy titles on the National Film Registry list that were available on DVD. Circulation started off slow, but in the past couple months it has been quite popular.
