Closed captioning with an LCD projector

I understand TV monitors sold in North America since 1993 have to
have closed captioning ability. How do people cope with captioned videos
and LCD projectors?
In our library we have an old-fashioned caption decoder with only a
coaxial output. I'm currently hunting for one with RCA output so that I
can send it's signal to an LCD projector.
In the past, in order to project a video with closed captioning, I've
had to feed the VCR output into the decoder, thence to a 2d VCR, and then
to the projector.
How would others improve on this arrangement?
