We have a library of about 13, 000 titles. I gave out a survey of for the library media specialists. I asked if they had DVD players, and if so, were wanting to have materials. I also asked how many planned on buying DVD players for the 2002-2003 school year. The results were sort of the "chicken or the egg". I have since begun purchasing DVDs covering programming we already had in VHS. I did this for two reasons. First, I knew the stuff that was going out in VHS was popular, and would be readily used in the DVD format. Secondly, I wanted to reassure, if you will, our schools, that we were not phasing out our VHS programming, just adding additional formats to our subject areas already covered. I do this with other materials, too--such as kits, poster sets. So, the DVD part of our collection will grow, but will not diminish our VHS collection.
