The Porter Henderson Library at Angelo State University is happy to present
an opportunity for a cheerful, MLS-qualified individual to apply to head
the Library's Media Unit. This position offers a diversity of assignments
for the multi-talented individual, with the opportunity to grow and develop
as a professional in the multi-media field. Angelo State University enrolls
approximately 6,000 students, and offers degrees up to and including the
Master's level. The University is located in San Angelo, Texas - a great
mix of Mid-West hospitality and South-West flavor & climate. The population
of San Angelo is aprox. 90,000, providing the conveniences of a city but
with the attitude and environment of a small town. For more information

POSITION: Media Librarian - Porter Henderson Library
JOB POSTING #: 020293
APPOINTMENT: On or after May 1, 2002
SALARY: $30,000 to $31,600 plus attractive employee benefits package.


Essential Functions:
Manages the Library's media services, including all activities relating to
the operation of the Audio- Visual (AV) Unit; assists students and faculty
in the use of media materials, and participates in the development of
digital information programs and educational technology applications,
including multimedia programs/presentations, digital collections, finding
aids, and authoring software; develops expertise relating to the use of
multimedia applications and systems; prepares and delivers instruction to
classes, faculty, and school groups, and lectures on specific subjects when
requested by University faculty; performs collection maintenance tasks,
such as selecting materials, and reviewing and weeding the Library's media,
curriculum, and circulating collections; assists w/supervision of
circulation activities and operations; enhances personal development by
reading professional publications and literature' enforces all library
policies and procedures; addresses problems and emergencies, as
appropriate; collects and compiles activity and workload data, and prepares
periodic report; composes and prepares correspondence and memoranda;
participates in Reference desk coverage including evening and weekend

Other Functions:
Selects, trains and supervises one library assistant; produces finding
aids, handouts, and directional /informational signs; serves as back up for
Circulation Librarian; attends training, seminars, and other meetings as
needed; performs other duties as assigned.


Possession of a Master's degree in Library Science, or its equivalent, from
an American Library Association accredited program.

Experience: One to two years work in an academic library setting including
experience with, audiovisual materials and knowledge of trends in non-print
media. Voyager experience preferred. Use of Internet/WWW and presentation
and authoring programs is also preferred.

Knowledge of the operation of computer terminals and the maintenance of
on-line databases; ability to work with electronic library resources and
on-line library databases; ability to operate a computer keyboard; ability
to perform basic mathematical calculations, ability to organize and
complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner; ability to perform work
requiring accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work harmoniously
with staff, patrons, and others; ability to operate a variety of office
equipment; skill in oral and written communication; skill in interpersonal
