Gary, your column in the current newsletter is something I have felt for a
long time. I don't think a lot of people realize how miraculous (and I do
mean it) film and sound technology are. Virtually the entire 20th century
is available for viewing and listening. We don't have film of the Civil
War, or Abraham Lincoln. No one will ever know how Jenny Lind sang. But
for all of the news and people in all walks of life in the 20th century, if
they were filmed or recorded, we know. I wonder if Thomas Edison really
appreciated what he came up with.
