interfiling videos

My director was interested in doing this about a year ago. At that time I
posted a query to pub-lib to find out what other libraries were interfiling
non-fiction books and videos. Not surprisingly, we found that some libraries
do interfile and some don't. Then we decided to ask our patrons how they
felt about it. This wasn't a huge survey, nor was it scientific, but the
patrons we talked to were almost unanimous in their strongly expressed
desire to see the video collection remain separate from the book collection.
One man commented that his family didn't get cable TV, and our non-fiction
videos were their version of cable--and he didn't want to hunt among our
nonfictin books to find "his" videos. Needless to say, we decided not to
interfile.

On another topic, does anyone know anything about a 12 v. video series
called Canticle to the Cosmos? I've had a local church offer to donate it. I
checked OCLC, and find that not a lot of public libraries own it. My main
concern is the size of the set, given our limited shelf space, and whether
there would be much local interest.
