I would go with BOTH security devices-the cases and the security strips. The
security strips are easily ripped off and then it's easy to walk out the door
with a DVD in a pocket. We recently had a patron checking out DVDs, taking
them home, removing the security sticker (which we stupidly had "hidden"
rather than having it out in the open so we could easily check for it,)
returning the DVDs, waiting for them to be reshelved (in the security boxes,)
pocketing them and walking out the door. When we figured out what was
happening, the police arrested him and recovered about half of the DVDs of
the over 100 we think he stole. (He was also taking music CDs.)
We've always had our DVDs in security boxes, there was never any question
about it. We went to security cases for the CDs after we had over fifty jazz
CDs stolen (cases were left, just the discs were gone ) in a few days time.
One thief can wipe out a collection.
