We have an opening for a new position of electronic services librarian
(includes 1/4 reference).

We're considering it an entry level position (Not because of the skills
required, but because the salary doesn't really pay for professional
experience. On the other hand, housing is inexpensive, so the salary really
is better than it might appear to those of you with a high cost of living :)

POSITION: Electronic Resources/Reference Librarian

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: On or after August 6, 2001
SALARY: $30,000 plus attractive employee benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions:
Coordinates the selection, planning, integration, and accessibility of
remote and electronic resources into existing Library resources and
services; chairs the Library Web Site Development Committee; administers
and participates in the development of the Library's web site; serves on
the University's Web Site Committee; administers, coordinates, and
integrates the functions of online software used in the Library; works
closely with Information Technology Department personnel on software
acquisitions, enhancements, and maintenance; generates and runs reports,
using on-line system and software.

Provides reference services to library patrons, including students,
faculty, and staff, including evening and weekend schedules, as needed;
provides training to Library staff on accessing and using on-line systems
and databases; collects and compiles activity and workload data; prepares
periodic administrative and statistical reports; conducts bibliographic
instruction sessions, as needed; participates in the selection of print
materials; composes and prepares correspondence and memoranda.

Other Functions:
Produces finding aids, handouts, and directional/informational signs;
attends professional conferences, training, seminars, and other meetings as
needed; performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic: Possession of a Master's degree in Library Science, or the
equivalent, from an American Library Association accredited program.

Experience: One to two years of pre-professional experience working
with library reference and/or technology services/software is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS/ Knowledge of library software and electronic search
technology; knowledge of basic Internet access and retrieval procedures;
knowledge of the operation of computer terminals and the maintenance of
on-line databases and services; knowledge of basic web page programming;
knowledge of library and reference procedures and practices; ability to
work with electronic library resources and on-line library databases;
ability to operate a computer keyboard; ability to perform basic
mathematical calculations; ability to organize and complete tasks in an
accurate and timely manner; ability to perform work requiring accuracy and
attention to detail; ability to work harmoniously with staff, patrons, and
others; ability to operate a variety of office equipment; skill in oral and
written communication; skill in interpersonal relations.
