There is nothing that prevents a library from lending or renting videos.

I've had no trouble lending to students and staff. (Because they can be
fined, I have less trouble getting videos returned than I do with faculty...)

I find that it promotes goodwill and awareness of the video collection if
you have some popular titles available to the students. A relatively small
amount of money can be used to create a nice little collection of classics,
foreign films, etc. (No brand-new blockbusters. The residence life office
has a rental collection from Swank for that.)
