Cornelius Moore, the director of our Library of African Cinema project here
at California Newsreel, I daresay most scholars in the African Studies
Association (though no poll has even been taken), and this very group as
indicated by Gary Handman's "core video list," all heartily recommend Basil
Davidson's "Africa" series (not to be confused with "The Africans;" or
perhaps it is) originally produced by the BBC. It's splendid historical
scholarship combined with engaging filmmaking.
