Just to add my two cents...is it possible that some of the feeling in the
community that these rights (i.e. distance learning use) SHOULD be available,
perhaps a hangover from the days of $500 twelve minute educational film
pricing? That's understandable...but there has been so much downward pressure
on price recently that there's little enough margin in films that often
retail for $20 or $30. Many films made specifically to match the curriculum
are now priced at under $50.There have to be some additional revenue
opportunities for the independent producer of documentaries...otherwise there
eventually won't be any. Revenue OR documentaries, that is.
