Thanx, Gary, for your suggestion to refer to the Fair Use Guidelines for
Educational Multimedia. These guidelines were developed (cooperatively with
more than 50 interested groups, including educational institutions and media
rights holders) specifically to address this type of application.

Perhaps a better URL is the one to the CCUMC (Consortium of College and
University Media Centers) page for the Guidelines:

"Copyright" section for more information, including a PowerPoint
presentation which summarizes key (tho not all) points of the guidelines.

By the way, CCUMC recently adopted a film preservation policy statement and
film preservation guidelines. You might be interested in taking a look at
those as well. They are linked directly from the home page.
