Not that long ago, an instructor for an on-line course approached
us about access to one of the titles in our collection for her on-line
students. As has been noted in this thread, digitizing the video was
neither practical nor legal. We gave her the distributor's phone number
and told her to explain the situation. The distributor worked out a
discount deal for her students, and all parties were satisfied. If this
situation keeps coming up, we'll do the calling.

So if you look at videos or dvd's or whatever media you have in your
collection in the same terms as a book, no librarian would photocopy or
digitize a textbook without copyright permission, true?
