The Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library is currently seeking
qualified applicants for the following managerial positions, at our
downtown Main Library location.
Magazine Division Manager
This position is responsible for maintaining the Library’s collection in
periodical format, government documents, and electronic resources. The
Magazine Division Manager is also responsible for supervising staff in
the provision of reference and readers advisory services in the Magazine
Division of the Main Library.
Job Duties: Reviews and selects materials in periodical format,
government documents, and electronic resources. Trains and supervises
Magazine Division staff and assigned library aides. Ensures proper
staffing of reference and information desks. Answers reference
questions and assists patrons in locating library materials. Maintains
special collections and participates in special projects.
This position is responsible for directing the Audio-Visual Division in
the provision of non-print media to library patrons.
Job Duties: Reviews, selects, and maintains the Library’s non-print
media collection and audio-visual equipment. Develops department
policies and procedures. Supervises activities of staff and assigned
library aides. Ensures proper staffing of reference desk. Answers
reference questions and assists patrons in locating library materials.
Assistant Adult Services Manager
This position is responsible for assisting the Adult Services Division
Manager in the maintenance of the Main Library’s adult book collection
and supervision and coordination of reference and readers’ advisory
services in the Adult Services Division of the Main Library.
Job Duties: Assists the Adult Services Division Manager in the training
and supervision of the adult reference and clerical staff. Oversees the
selection, training and supervision of library aides. Maintains the
Main Library adult reference collection. Assists the Adult Services
Division Manager in developing and maintaining a department policies and
procedure manual. Answers reference questions and assists patrons in
locating and selecting appropriate materials. Assists the Adult
Services Division Manager in developing adult programs.
Position Requirements: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices
and methods of library science and administration. Ability to
supervise, train, develop and motivate staff. Specialized knowledge of
library programs and materials in a subject area. Leadership ability,
high standards, collaborative work style, and willingness to work in a
team management setting. A master’s degree in library science is
preferred, and extensive library experience is required.
