Gentlefolk, both vendor and buyer:
Finally cleared my reading pile and noticed there is an EXCELLANT
article on negotiation in the January 2000 supplement to Library Journal,
"Library Journal netconnect". It is titled "Deal-Maker,
Deal-Breaker: When To Walk Away" and written by Lesley Ellen
Harris. Although it is directed toward digital products, it has great
advice that fits our venues. I recommend it. (In case anyone has
forgotten, Bev Owen and I used to double-team vendors and negotiate "by
the pound of product" because we had big bags of money -- Bev still has
bags of money and I'm leaving the biz to do magic.)
