Re: DVD security strips

We do not place magnetic security strips on our DVD. Isntead, we use an
identifying label with our library's name and address that goes in the very
center of the disk. For security, we use Gressco Kwik cases with the
magnetic strips inside the cases with nothing directly on the DVD. So far
(we have carried DVD since January of this year), this has worked very well
for us. The cases are, of course, reuseable and cuts down on the cost of
security stripping each DVD. The only drawback is circulation staff removing
the item from the security case for check out. It is actually faster to
check out DVD than our videotapes because the magnetic strip is directly on
the videotape and takes longer to remove the tape from its case, desensitize
the magnetic strip and replace in the case.

If you want more information about the Kwik cases, please contact me at

Thanks.
