We too have staff and students preview entire video and had a similar
experience mid way through a tape .... only it was a local (not our
locality) news program. We watch with one eye on the t.v. and the other
on the task at hand.
We've also had more than one instance of mislabeled tapes. Yes, the
cataloguer would have caught this but there is sometimes a considerable
lag between acquisition and cataloging.
