I have a question. If you are not opening the cases because the barcode is
scannable through an opening in the plastic, how can you tell if the CORRECT
video is in the case, not just any video, when they are checked back in?
For example, we've had lots of problems with patrons not putting the correct
videos in the correct cases before they are returned to us and the only way
to tell is to open the case and read the title on the shell to see if is
matches the cover art on the case. Also, occasionally we've had patrons pull
the barcode off the video shell and stick it on a home video and return it in
the case, apparently hoping to keep ours.
Our circulation staff is campaigning for these cases with the opening for the
barcode, but I am still skeptical of the practicality, given the
aforementioned problems. I'd appreciate information on this subject.
Thanks.
