Re: videos on ILL

We have been loaning our videos through ILL for nearly 3 years now in an
effort to see others reciprocate. We often have customers who want to use a
specific video that is not in our collection, but is in the holdings of
another institution. Ususally, these titles do not warrant addition to our
collection since they are mostly one time requests. In the time we have
loaned our videos, CD, books on tape and music audiotapes, we have lost only
2 items. We loan approximately 20-25 AV items per month to other libraries.
In the 3 years we have been loaning through ILL only one library has filled
only a single request. (We have submitted several requests with no one
willing to share their resources.)

ILL of AV materials is an excellent way to share resources at little expense
to the parties involved. Our AV ILL program has been successful from our
point of view and cannot understand the reluctance of other libraries to make
their materials available to as wide an audience as possible.
