POSITION: Librarian II
Audio-Visual Department (Sights & Sounds)

SALARY: $32,049 - $39,075

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Librarian Supervisor
II, performs reference and advisory service related to audio-visual
materials. Assists in planning, organizing and directing the work of
the department. Assists the department head in supervising, training
and evaluating staff. Coordinates work/ deadlines within the department
in areas of reference and advisory service, booking operations,
shipping, inspection and repair, and circulation. Assists in
previewing, evaluation, selection and acquisition of audio-visual
media(videos, musical CDs, audio cassettes, books-on-tape, etc.).
Previews, evaluates and decides on collection development in several major
subject areas. Plans library sponsored film/video programs. Visits public
throughout the Maryland library network to promote audio-visual services
and materials and to interpret policies and procedures of the State
Library Resource Center (SLRC). Assists with planning and organizing
workshops for library systems and organizations in Maryland.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Library Science from a college
or university accredited by ALA. Course work in audio-visual services,
preferably on the graduate level. Two years of experience in
professional library work with at least one year of in Audio-Visual
services in a public library or college. One year
administrative/supervisory experience. Interest in and general
background in video and audio-visual media, state-of-the-art knowledge
of audio-visual technology. Knowledge of audio-visual hardware.
Initiative and flexibility. Skill in human relations. Some travel
required. Flexible work schedule includes evening, Saturday, and
Sunday. Genuine interest in people and their subject needs; ability to
speak effectively in public.
