We've operated with one budget line for film/video purchases. It is not
allocated by department, however as departments tap into the fund for video
materials, we begin asking them to help defray the costs, either for large
purchases (many tapes) or expensive tapes. This helps the budget go
farther. Since the collection is one for academic use, most of the
maerials purchased are at specific request from a faculty member. Having
their department share the cost helps us insure that the program will be
used.

Academic departments pay all costs for renting programs, although they are
booked through our office.
