RE: Barcode placement on videos

Karen, we do the same thing, and (knock wood,) haven't had staff complaints
about repetitive motions. I think the feeling here is also the same.
Barcode on tape, it belongs to us. No barcode - patron's. We can give the
whole kit 'n' kaboodle - case and tape - back to the patron right then -
it's not returned until everything is returned. We have no room for a huge
snag shelf of cases with wrong materials. This is generally how we do it
for single cassettes. However, with multiple cassette programs, generally,
the barcode is on the top upper right corner of the cover. As far as staff
stress, we open every case for all av to check that the items are there -
whether cd, vct or ct, that the items are ours, and they appear to be in
good condition. With the tapes, we check the bottom to be sure the tape is
at least running across, and the felt pad is there. It's very labor
intensive, but we have very little loss on returns, and also have saved
patrons from checking out damaged materials. (yes, we miss some coming and
going sometimes.)

Hope this helps. I wish our circ was like yours. I am so jealous!
