Greetings fellow librarians

Presently my workplace shelves all its videos on both metal and wooden
shelves and there are no evidence to show that tapes on either one are
preserved for longer periods. In fact, I think the level of humidity and
exposure to direct light has more to do with the deterioration of the
tapes.

During my undergraduate days in the National University of Singapore,
I noticed that the entire video collection was housed in metal compacters
and some of the titles were acquired a decade ago and do seem to be working
fine when I viewed them.

Just my two cents worth.
