I know this sounds strange, especially in our library, but we don't put any
security tags on our books on cassette. We tried, but the radio frequencies
and the security tags screwed up many of the tapes. Since we stopped
tagging them, our problems with funny sounding tapes have decreased. I have
to say, we really don't have a lot of theft for this format (please!). What
someone went and did a couple of years ago, was steal the cds out of large
box sets of operas and choral works. The theif didn't take the box or the
librettos, just the discs. Too strange! Anyway, what we did have problems
with recently was someone stealing all our Spanish music cds. Now we are
locking them up along with our rock titles. And so it goes.
