III. Report on Affil-Tech group (T Pundurs)

Trina Pundurs reported on the work of Affil-Tech, a group of technical services staff from the Affiliated Libraries. Affil-Tech began meeting in January 2007, and now meets every other month, with participation from nearly all the Affiliated units. A core group of attendees have identified a number of issues of mutual interest including: participation in an ILS, comparing tech services workflows and procedures, best practices for NRLF deposit. TALAG advised Affil-Tech to continue to focus on issues of greatest interest to those libraries who participate the most. Units whose technical services operations are more unique will inevitably be less involved, but may still benefit from the expertise of the units whose operations are more similar. TALAG also strongly supported the concept of developing a NRLF Best Practices Manual for Affiliated Libraries. TALAG asked that Affil-Tech make a brief report to the Spring and Fall Affiliated Assemblies.

IV. Affiliated Libraries Fall Assembly Planning (S Supple)

Discussion of possible speakers for the Affiliated Libraries Fall Assembly resulted in the following suggestions: Ben Crow, Chair of the University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC); Sheldon Zedeck, Vice Provost-Academic Affairs & Faculty Welfare; someone to talk about new Melvyl; someone to talk about future of commercial search engines. The Committee on Affiliated Library Affairs can request funding from LAUC-B to pay a speaker honoraria as needed.

V. CDL: Follow-up on meeting with Ivy Anderson

Robinson and Huwe reported on their 7/11/2007 meeting with Ivy Anderson, Director of Collection Development at CDL, also attended by M Hoffman. The consensus was that TALAG has done good job of reaching out to CDL leadership in the past year (Farley, Chandler, Anderson), and that we should revisit relationships with CDL in 2008.

VI. Planning for annual meeting between TALAG and University Librarian

We discussed topics for an upcoming meeting with Tom Leonard (and Bernie Hurley, Isabel Stirling). TALAG members will give brief updates on affiliated library collaborations with The Library during the past year, and thank The Library for its support. TALAG will request a brief report on the status of ILS planning. The bulk of the meeting will probably be spent in discussing the evolving New Directions planning, and the potential for participation by Affiliated Libraries.

The next meeting is December 5, 2007.
