Classroom & Reservation Policies


The Doe and Moffitt Library Classrooms (105 Doe and 350C, 450C, & 550C Moffitt) are available to UC Berkeley library staff during the academic semester.

Reservations & coordination of your requests are handled by the .

PLEASE NOTE: Not all requests can be granted due to scheduling conflicts or priority of use.



Reservation Priority

Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, following these guidelines:

  1. Highest priority is for library instruction to the UCB academic community.
  2. Second priority is given to library staff training.
  3. Use by the UCB educational community and other special groups is limited to semester breaks after library needs are met.
  4. Exceptions can only be made by the Head of Instructional Services.

How to Request a Reservation

  1. Consult the calendar showing classroom reservations before requesting a room and time.
  2. Then fill out the Library Classroom Reservation Request Form. Contact the (x3-9959) if you are having problems logging in.
  3. In order to maximize the availability of library classrooms, book the room only for the duration of your session.    Please do not book
    additional time before the session for room setup or after the session for follow-up.

  4. You will receive an e-mail confirmation or a denial requesting alternate dates and times.

Software

  1. The computers in the classrooms are networked and include a standard suite of library-supported software. For more information, please see Library Classroom Information.

  2. If you alter the computer software, you must restore it when finished with the class. Instructors are discouraged from altering the software configuration on the classroom computers. If you make changes, however, it is your responsibility to return the computers to the default configuration when finished with your class.

  3. Special Software Requests:
  • If other software is required for use in the classroom, indicate this when you make your reservation or contact the (3-9959).
  • Requests for non-supported software should be made 3 weeks (and no fewer than 5 days) in advance of your presentation.

All software requests for the library classrooms
are coordinated by the Teaching Library.
Do NOT send a request directly to the Help Desk.

Using the Classrooms

1. Using the Equipment
  • Users are strongly encouraged to read Library Classroom Information which includes a description of the equipment and procedures for use of the rooms.
  • To schedule a time to visit and test equipment prior to an instructional session, use the Library Classroom Reservation Request Form.
  • If you have not taught in the classrooms before or need a refresher, contact the (3-9959) for an orientation.

2. Access to Moffitt Library

  • You and all members of your class will need campus I.D. or a library card to enter Moffitt Library.
  • Instructors scheduling classes before the building is open will need to make special arrangements.
3. Key Checkout
  • To check out keys or arrange for use of a classroom earlier than 9 a.m., contact the (3-9959).
  • Keys should be promptly returned at the end of the instructional session.

4. PLEASE NOTE: Food and drink are prohibited in the library.

Closing Down the Classrooms

  • Instructors are responsible for leaving the classrooms in "ready-to-go" condition. Extra chairs should be put away, class handouts should be removed, lights should be turned off, the door should be locked and alarmed, etc.
  • All computers should be left ON and logged in.
  • The projector should be turned OFF.
  • There is a "How to Close the Classroom" checklist in each classsroom with step-by-step instructions.

Troubleshooting Computer Problems

  • If the computer crashes, reboot the computer, and then go back to the program you were using and try to close it down properly.
  • If you experience computer or equipment problems during your session, contact the Help Desk at 2-6120 and request a "critical" repair ticket.
  • Please inform the (3-9959) of all computer or equipment problems, so that we follow through with Systems on the repairs.

Cancellation of Reservations

  • Please contact the if you do not plan to hold class on your reserved day.
  • 48-hour advance notice would be appreciated so the classroom can be released for other instructional use.
