Switching between Classroom & Public Environments

This information is specific to 105 Doe only.

Equipment

INSTRUCTOR'S STATION - Pentium IV PC with 15 inch monitor and speakers. (Windows XP)

1. Choice of software environments
The Instructor's Station can be used in either the Classroom environment (loads the software listed in Software Information below) or the Public environment (the Library's public access PC interface, including networked CD-ROMs).

  • Classroom environment: CD drive, floppy drive, & USB port for flash drive.
  • Public environment: USB port for flash drive only.
  • For information on how to switch between software environments, see Switching between Classroom & Public Environments.

2. Shutting Down the Instructor’s Station

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT:

  • Go to the Start Menu
  • Choose “Shut Down”
  • Make sure “Shut Down” appears as the drop-down menu choice
  • Select “OK”

PUBLIC ENVIRONMENT:

  • Click on the “Shutdown computer” icon on the desktop.

3. Projector
The classroom is equipped with a screen and a projector connected to the instructor's PC. For information, please see Projector Use.

2. Special Software Requests: If other software is required for use in the classroom, indicate this when you make your reservation or contact the (3-9959).
  • Please Note: All software requests for the library classrooms are coordinated by the Teaching Library. Do NOT send a request directly to the Help Desk.
  • Requests for non-supported software should be made 3 weeks (and no fewer than 5 days) in advance of your presentation.

Projector Use

Starting | Shutting Down | Troubleshooting


To start up the projector:

  • Press the power button on the top of the projector.
To shut down the projector:
  • Press the power button on the top of the projector.
  • A message will be displayed on the projector screen, asking if you want to shut down the projector.
  • Press the power button to select "yes".

Troubleshooting:

1. The projector screen is not as bright as usual or suddenly goes dark.
The projector bulb needs to be replaced.

** Please notify Jennifer Dorner (2-1580) ASAP!

2. The projector is not turning on.
- Is it plugged in?
- Try to turn it manually by pressing the "power" button on top of the projector.

Switching between Classroom & Public Environments

**Instructor’s station only – student computers do NOT have this feature**

Instructions

To switch the instructor’s station from the Classroom enviroment to the Public environment (or vice versa), follow the directions below:

1. Check to be sure that both of the hard drives are turned ON.

2. Locate the SwitchView box (small box to the left of the instructor’s computer).

3. On the SwitchView box, press the grey select button (on the right hand side) until an orange light appears by the environment you want to use:

Classroom Environment:

Select “A” for the classroom environment.

Public Environment:

Select “B” for the public pc environment.

4. The desktop should now have changed to the environment you selected.

Troubleshooting

1. The desktop doesn’t look right.
- Check to see if you’ve selected the correct environment. If not, follow the directions above to re-select.

2. I’ve selected the environment I want to use, but nothing shows up on the screen.
- Are both hard drives turned on?
- Is the monitor turned on?

If you're still having problems, call the Teaching Library at 3-9959.
