E-mail Accounts and Lists

The Library Systems Office (LSO) and the Library Human Resources Department (LHRD) have established procedures to ensure that all new employees of the Library receive a CalMail e-mail account as soon as possible. CalMail requires that users be in the HRMS system, have a CalNet ID, and be listed in the CalNet directory before an account can be established. This means that an e-mail account can't be set up before the employee's first day of work on site.

E-mail accounts for new employees:
LHRD will notify the LSO when CalMail e-mail accounts need to be created for new employees. LSO will notify supervisors when new employees may set up their own accounts via the CalMail website. All Library staff who have a CalMail e-mail account are automatically included in the library-wide alluser list.

E-mail account names:
All new e-mail account names will continue to follow the existing pattern, that is they must be the first initial of the employee's first name followed by up to 7 characters of the employee's last name. Employees can set up an alias see calmail.berkeley.edu/account/aliases.

Closure of e-mail accounts:
LHRD will notify the LSO when a CalMail e-mail account needs to be deleted for an individual who no longer works in the Library. Please see Guidelines for Closure of Library E-mail Accounts for more information.

Departmental e-mail accounts:
To obtain a departmental CalMail e-mail account, fill out the Departmental E-mail Application form (pdf).

Reading your e-mail:
You may read your e-mail via a desktop e-mail client, or via CalMail Webmail. See the CalMail Options page for more information.

E-mail lists:
Anyone with a CalMail e-mail account may create an e-mail list. E-mail lists are created, managed and deleted via CalMail, and follow the syntax listname@lists.berkeley.edu. See the E-mail List Policy page for more information and instructions.

With your help, LSO maintains the Library E-mail Lists page. Contact webman to have a change made to the page.

CalNet Directory:
The campus maintains the CalNet Directory of e-mail addresses, phone numbers, campus addresses for faculty, staff and students on campus. To add or modify your listing in this directory, go to CalNet Directory Update. To receive e-mail messages from the campus, please see the instructions to change your official email address to @library.berkeley.edu.

Library Staff directories:
With your help, LSO maintains the Staff Directory, by name and Staff Directory, by unit pages. Contact webman to have a change made to the page.

If you experience e-mail problems, CalMail provides support at consult@berkeley.edu or your may call 642-7776. If you have problems with your e-mail client, please contact the Help Desk (helpbox@library.berkeley.edu).
