International Exchange Programs, International and Area Studies:
UCB has written agreements with 20-30 overseas academic institutions and with 2 consortia of institutions numbering an additional 60 institutions. These agreements are often "good will" agreements. About 10 master-level students come to campus each year t hrough this program, to work with a specific faculty member; to take one or more courses; or to work in a research lab. Students are required to enroll and pay for one 2-unit independent study course. Other courses are audited for free. Although the progr am is reciprocal on paper, UCB students do not enroll in overseas universities under these agreements. The Dean, International and Area Studies, actively promotes this program as a development tool.

Miller Institute for the Basic Research in Science:
The Miller Institute is an endowed institute, with essentially 3 programs in support of basic research in science:
* a post doctoral program (20 per year, "cream of the crop", selected by world-wide nomination process),
* a visiting professorship program (16-24/year invited to bolster UCB departmental teaching/research staff and/or to work on collaborative projects with UCB faculty and grads), and
* the Miller Professorship Program (almost all UCB faculty funded for a research on-campus "sabbatical".)
All three programs are very prestigious (comparable to the Harvard Society of Fellows), and all participants contribute directly to the teaching and research programs of the campus.
