Present: Brian Quigley (chair), Vanessa Tait, Lisa Rubens (recorder),
Lincoln Cushing, Dave Duer.
Brian proposed that the agenda be changed to consider and rank 4 submitted
proposals. Chair particularly concerned that the committee would be taking
on too much if we sponsored all 4 proposals.
1. Poetry Reading considered easiest to do; April 19th offered. P.A.
system to be brought in, no food. Open mic afterward, SHAPE the sponsor.
2. Useable Nukes, asked for last week of April and Committee suggests
offering April 26. Lincoln to ask Cal Debate team if they want to
officially participate. Concern that the FSM Cafe name be placed on the
event. Questions posed of proposal: how many people will participate in
the debate; how long will the presentations be; how will they focus the
discussion.
3. Free Press proposal agreed upon in principle.....committee to offer May
3. Brian the main contact person. Brian to be in touch with Molnar at
Journalism School.
4. Life on Death Row considered inappropriate for this term, especially
since it no longer includes the original vision to have live interview with
an inmate. Showing a CBS video as a replacement considered not the same
order of timeliness. Group will be asked to submit a proposal next year.
Show and Tell:
Lincoln showed brochure for Labor Institute
Lisa showed vinyl banner as prototype for a banner at FSM cafe to be put up
a week before each event announcing the event.
Dave proposed that a forum on the Free Speech Movement archives take place
next fall. Lisa suggested Oct or early Dec [historic dates played upon]
committee members encouraged to volunteer for some but not all of the events.
