Minutes of the FSM Café Educational Programs Committee
Wednesday, October 10, 2001, 4-5 PM, 303 Doe

Present: Lincoln Cushing, Dave Duer, Joan Gatten, Brian Quigley
(facilitator), Barrie Thorne, Vanessa Tait (recorder)
Absent: Lisa Rubens, Stephanie Sadre-Orafai, Sarah Sled

1. Proposal for "Justice, Not Vengeance" program

We agreed to give provisional approval to this program coordinated by
Xochitl M. Perales and the Peace Studies Student Association, pending
further details. Dates of the program, to take place on two separate
evenings, to be arranged. Barrie will be the program liaison and will
contact the group with the news and work with them on planning. She'll
also ask them for some basic text or a flyer for publicity purposes. Once
that is obtained and dates are finalized, we can proceed with advertising
the program.

2. Checklist for programs -- what needs to be done in preparation?

--Logistics: program liaison will contact group/individual with approvals,
and keep in touch with them through the process. A checklist of things to
do would be helpful.
--Budget: Brian will check on the monies available for programs and report
back.
--Scheduling & Space: We discussed the limited capacity of the space, and
Lincoln suggested, and we agreed, to include the phrase "seating limited,
please arrive early" on our publicity materials.
--Security: We talked about the need to consider security for the programs.
Brian will contact library and campus security to investigate procedures
and report back to the committee.
--Publicity: Lisa is working on a sign that can be put up in the café
publicizing the proposal process. Vanessa and Lisa are planning to meet
with Graphics Office to develop a publicity poster once we have data in
programs -- such as the "Justice, Not Vengeance" program to publicize. It
was also suggested we find out who can program the video "crawl" in the
café and possibly use it for publicity.

3. Invitations to programs

We discussed keeping an email list to notify interested parties about
upcoming programs. Lincoln volunteered to work on this project.

4. Update on outreach efforts

Tabled; members urged to communicate via email until next scheduled meeting
on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 4-5 pm.

5. Voting procedures when a committee member sponsors a program.

We agreed to put this on a future agenda for discussion.

6. Other business.

Dave notes that the Exhibits Committee welcomes input on future displays
or exhibits for the 4 FSM Cafe wall cases.
