Volume Specific Searching
If you are searching for journal titles in your unit, set the location
to your unit in GLADIS.
The following instructions are for searches in GLADIS for other locations.
To search for a specific volume for a serial or MVM, call up the record on
GLADIS, then type:
- v (volume or date/(unit location)-unit location if "set loc"
command has not been set at the terminal.
Examples:
- v 56/Main
- v ser.2, v.23/Bios
- v 1889/Main
- v May1989/Chem
- v 92:1:4/Opto
NOTE:
- Specified volume information should correspond to the marking on the
material; if a date appears first on the piece, then use a date in the command.
- The v command is not valid from a MARC or LONG display.
- Volume information must be specified in the v command.
- You do not need to include no. in your command.
- You MUST include series if it is part of the v/c.
- If there is only one location that has a particular title, you need
not include "/location" as part of your command. However, including "/location"
will make GLADIS display the holdings and special shelving notes.
- Including "/location" when there are multiple holdings in a record is
a good idea. Otherwise GLADIS will display the volumes of the first
holding location.
- If there are two sets of a title in the unit you can move from one
to the other with the command "NEXT CALLv__" or PREV CALL. This command will
skip any locations that come between the two sets in the unit, ie. another
branch or unit.
- To get to the most recent volumes of a list, when you are not sure
of the volume number, type 9999/location. This will not work for those
few title which have switched from numbering by date to numbering by
volume. In these cases volumes file before date. Searching for the
earliest date should put you in the right area.
