Circulation Code, How to Set

Please see the table of GLADIS circulation codes by borrower type for a comprehensive array of circcodes available.

The length of time a patron may borrow an item is determined by the circulation code. The assignment of a circulation code depends on the type of material being circulated, the patron's borrowing privileges, and the loan policies of the owning unit. These codes can be changed as needed by using the "set circ" command.

Each item in GLADIS has a circulation code, or "circcode" which represents its loan period. Circcodes are determined by each library unit, depending on whether or not the item is a monograph, a journal, a reading for reserve, a homework solution, etc. Library units may decide to circulate some materials to certain categories of borrowers for longer periods than other categories of borrowers, and circcodes can be chosen to reflect that decision. Circcodes are displayed on the detail screen in Autocirc, in the last position of each holding.

 Main Stack PR4809.H18.B5 1904
        1 Barcode: C040928858 Circcode: A

To change or reset the circulation code for a specific book or volume

Now the record would show a different circcode:

Main Stack PR4809.H18.B5 1904
        1 Barcode: C040928858 Circcode: J

To change the circcode for every copy or issue of a book or journal in a specific record

Anthropology GN482.M4
               Library has: 2 copies
        1 Barcode: C037175967 Circcode: A
        2 copy 2 Barcode: C037175976 Circcode: A

This command will give all copies a 1-week loan period resulting in the following:

Anthropology GN482.M4
               Library has: 2 copies
        1 Barcode: C037175967 Circcode: H
        2 copy 2 Barcode: C037175976 Circcode: H

Note that you still have to specify an item number even when you want all of them to change. If you specify an item number which is not the first item number in the record when using the set circ all command, only the items following that number will change. If you gave the command :

Note: circcodes can only be changed by the owning unit.
