Double click on your GLADIS icon. Downloading works best if you are not in Autocirc, and you are not trying to do it from TTE. Once you've opened up ordinary GLADIS type logon and press return.
Type in your the initials and password. Be aware that these will show on the screen, so you will need to protect your privacy at this step. Press return.
Type dl res and press return.
The first screen to appear will ask you to pick what sort of reserve list you want generated. Pick option 1 Paging List by typing the number 1. Do not press return after any of the next few screens. You will automatically be given the next screen after you make your choice.
What type of reserve downloading would you like to perform?
1 - PAGING LIST
2 - SNAG LIST - ITEMS ON RESERVE AT THIS LOCATION
3 - SNAG LIST - ITEMS LOANED BY THIS LOCATION
4 - EXIT
The next screen will ask you which owning location you want the paging list to include, yours or everyone else's:
What owning locations(s) do you want included on your list?
1 - THIS LOCATION
2 - ALL OTHER LOCATIONS
Choose 1 if you want to gather up the books in your own unit and need to know which ones to pick up. They will be arranged by call number and the list will include author, title, barcode number, charge information, and reserve information (semester, course number, and professor's name.)
Choose 2 if you wish to have a list, arranged by unit and in call number order, of all the books you have requested for reserve from other units. Reserve prep request postcards were automatically sent to those units when you prepped the books initially, so it is not necessary to send a list out as well. The list is useful, however, to ascertain which books you've received and which ones will require follow-up requests.
The next screen will ask you:
Do you want to limit your list to a particular call number range?
1 - YES
2 - NO
The next screen will ask you:
What communications software are you using?
1 - PROCOMM
2 - DANTE
3 - OTHER
Choose 3.
On GLADIS, the next screen has the heading "3-Directions for capturing records". It explains how to download, without really telling you how to capture your records. Basically you will be opening what is called a capture buffer, filling it, and closing it. Once you have reached this screen, pressing the return key will start the downloading, and pressing return again will stop it. Be careful not to unintentionally press return before you have opened your capture buffer, and be sure to close the capture buffer before you stop the downloading operation.
The name of the program you are using is in the very upper left corner of your window. The following directions tell you how to save data that goes by on the screen to a file, using either CRT or Win6530.
If you're using CRT:
A. Open the capture buffer by clicking File. Then click on Log session.
B. File name: You will be asked to name the capture file you are creating if this is the first time the capture process has been done. If capture has been done before, it will automatically write over the same file that was used last time. If you are asked for a name, type in a name and then go to C below. If you are not asked for a name, or to see what the file is or change it's name or location, continue with these directions: click on Options and then Session preferences, select the files tab and change the name or location at the log file dialog box.
C. "Save in" location for new capture files: The default directory for the file is probably not where you want it - you will want to change the "Save in" location by using the up arrow at the top to move up the directory structure and pick a location for your file where you will easily be able to find it.
D. Click on Save after you have made all your choices. The box will disappear. If you're on GLADIS, you will be back on the screen named "3-Directions for capturing records", or you might get a box which asks you if you want to overwrite an existing file - answer yes. The screen will say: Press [RETURN] to continue with DOWNLOAD or G to return to GOPAC
Press return.
The records will scroll by in call number order. If you have a very long list and your screen saver kicks in, the downloading will stop. Hit any key to continue, but do not press return. Hitting the return key will stop the download and you will have to start over.
If you're not on GLADIS then issue command(s) needed to display the data you want to capture.
E. When the list or data display is complete, hit return to stop the download.
F. Click on log session again to turn off the logging (the check mark should go away)
If you're using Win6530:
A. Set file name: Go to Capture and click on Define. At the dialog box make sure that the Capture Type is set to logging, and that the capture file box has the name of the file you want filled in. If you want data to go to a new file, give a new name. If you want to overwrite what is in the existing file, leave it the same. You may need to make a note of the location and name of the file, to be able to find your data later. Click OK to set the file.
B: To begin recording data: click on Capture and then Record.
The box will disappear. If you're on GLADIS, you will be back on the screen named "3-Directions for capturing records". The screen will say: Press [RETURN] to continue with DOWNLOAD or G to return to GOPAC
Press return.
The records will scroll by in call number order. If you have a very long list and your screen saver kicks in, the downloading will stop. Hit any key to continue, but do not press return. Hitting the return key will stop the download and you will have to start over again because no records are saved unless the capture buffer has been closed.
If you're not on GLADIS then issue command(s) needed to display the data you want to capture.
C. When the list is complete, hit return to stop the download.
D. To turn off recording: click on Capture and then Stop.
All programs:
Once you have downloaded your records, you can retrieve them in Word
or Wordperfect and format and print the list. The file will have the name
you gave it, and when you open it you will see a "Convert File Format"
dialogue box. Click on the down arrow until you find ASCII Text (DOS) and
then click on that. Click on OK and the box will disappear, and you will
see your data all ready to be printed or saved.
