When patrons have questions about any of the following:

items they have checked out
holds they have placed
recalls on their books, or
anything concerning their circulation record

the best way to help them is to pull up their inventory.

Let patrons know that they can call up their own inventory from any GLADIS terminal by typing the previous command, followed by the last four digits of their Social Security number or PIN number when prompted. Patrons may request PIN numbers at the Privileges Desk in Doe Library. The inventory screens on the public access GLADIS terminals give the same information as those on AutoCirc.

Inventory screens give the following information:

[date] DUE IN [branch]
Indicates the date the item is due back at owning unit.
OVERDUE
Indicates that the item is past due but the record is not yet blocked. These items can still be renewed.
[date] RECALLED
The item has been recalled by another patron and cannot be renewed. The date listed is the book's due date, not the date the recall was placed. Placing a recall speeds the original due date, so the date listed on the screen will probably not reflect what is stamped in the back of the book.
BLOCKED
Overdue items are eventually blocked. These items are no longer renewable. All library privileges remain blocked until the item is cleared at the owning unit.
WARNING
Indicates the date that a Bill Warning notice was sent to the patron for an overdue item. This notice informs the patron that the billing process is about to begin on the item. Most units perform thorough searches on items before sending out the notices.
BILLABLE
These items are already blocked and are about to be billed. They should be returned immediately to avoid processing charges.

BILLED
A blocked item has exceeded its grace period and is now billed. When the item is returned and the bill has been cancelled, a $10 processing charge will remain, except for research borrowers (#03) who do not receive a processing charge.
REF
This is the CARS reference number. It is the invoice number for the item being billed.
FINED
Some units charge an overdue fine on certain categories of materials that have been recalled. Patrons should check with the branch from which the item has been borrowed.
PAID
Indicates the date that replacement charges which have been billed on CARS have already been paid.
CRETURN [date]
Indicates that a Claims Returned has been placed on the item on the date listed. The patron claims to have returned the item to the owning unit. While the CR is active, replacement and processing charges are in the dispute stage if the item has been billed.
RESTORE [date]
Indicates that a Claims Returned search has been performed and the item has not been located. The block on the patron's borrowing privileges will be restored and the billing process will be resumed.

PICKUP
The patron has placed a hold on the item and it is now available at the circulation desk. It will be held there for the patron until the date listed, when it will either be turned over to the next patron in the hold queue or returned to the stacks.
BIND CHG
A standard $25 binding charge is assessed if a library book is returned damaged and can be rebound. The charge is assessed only if it can be determined that the patron is at fault for the damage.
PROC CHG
This is a $10 non-refundable charge levied to offset processing costs on an item that has reached the billing stage. They will appear on the patron's CARS statement. The PROC CHG message appears at the beginning of the individual record when the item has already been returned. This is important to keep in mind, as patrons often think their inventory is telling them they still have the book. Following this message is a complete patron-item circulation history, including date of discharge. (The Discharged message appears in a patron inventory only when processing charges are still outstanding.)
